Detox Injection

Classification

Organosulfur Compound (ALA) and Antioxidant and Tripeptide compound  (GSH)

Indications:

Alpha Lipoic acid (ALA) and Glutathione (GSH) are both powerful antioxidants that aid in the reduction of oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable atoms created by the toxic byproducts of oxygen metabolism; they cause significant damage to living cells and tissues in a process called “oxidative stress.” Factors that have been known to cause free radicals are smoking, alcohol, air pollution and fried foods, but other processes as simple as aging and sun exposure can induce free radicals. ALA has been especially studied in patients with diabetes who are prone to nervous tissue destruction and its ability to protect nerve tissue.

This IV injection is available at Osmosis Lounge, offering a boost of antioxidants to support cellular health.

Mechanism of Action / Benefits:

Here are the mechanism of action and benefits of this IV therapy-

  • Glutathione (GSH) is used as a cofactor in multiple peroxidase enzymes, which are enzymes that detoxify free radical attack on biological molecules
  • GSH is also a cofactor in transhydrogenase’s which are enzymes that reduce oxidized centers on DNA, proteins, and other biomolecules.
  • Studies have shown that GSH supplementation improves lipid metabolism and acidification in skeletal muscles caused by lactic acid buildup during exercise
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is quickly absorbed and converted into dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA) by enzymatic action which is one of the most powerful antioxidants in our bodies and has received considerable attention for managing diabetic complications such as neuropathy, retinopathy and vascular disease.
  • ALA is an essential cofactor for several mitochondrial multienzyme complexes that catalyze critical reactions related to the catabolism(breakdown) of amino acids and the production of energy
  • ALA also acts as a metal chelator by binding free metal ions in our body that can induce oxidative damage. These free metal ions such as copper and iron contribute to neurodegenerative diseases and other chronic diseases
  • ALA works synergistically with GSH by increasing concentrations of GSH in our cells as well as promoting GSH’s natural production pathways in our body.

Considerations:

  • Due to limited research among those pregnant and breastfeeding, we advise to contact your provider for direction on supplementation.
  • Those with asthma should also exercise caution with glutathione.
  • Those with SULFA allergies should exercise caution with glutathione supplementation as it is a sulfur containing compound.
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid can lower blood sugar levels, so people with diabetes should exercise caution with supplementation.

Potential Side Effects:

  • Light-headedness / dizziness
  • Flushing
  • Increased flatulence
  • Feeling jittery
  • Rash
